Member Profile: Day Haven Adult Day Services

As our population ages, the number of working adults caring for elderly relatives has increased dramatically.  Oftentimes, those older relatives are not living full-time in residential facilities, but rather in their own home, or the homes of their children and families.  While caregivers work, they need peace of mind knowing their loved ones are in a safe and supportive environment, and socializing with their peers.  Day Haven Adult Day Services is there to serve both frail elders, including individuals with Alzheimer’s disease/related dementia and their family caregivers.

Since 1984, Day Haven has been a pioneer in developing services to support elders in their desire to remain at home for as long as possible.  A social model adult day services program providing day-time care, a full range of therapeutic activities, and supervision for frail older adults and those with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia.

Our goal is two-fold: to enhance quality of life and to support cognitive, social, emotional, and physical functioning.

·        Adult Day Care and Respite Care

Our social model adult day services program provides daytime care for frail older adults and those with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. Experts agree that adult day services are vital to supporting quality of life and maintaining elders in their homes for as long as possible. Our therapeutic activities, professional and caring staff, and our fun and supportive environment enrich the daily life of our participants. We offer flexible scheduling and full or part time enrollment. Our commitment to caring ensures all participants are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Our knowledgeable staff including a social worker, recreation professionals and paraprofessionals can help you and your loved one make the transition to adult day services. They will also help you access other resources in the community.

Specialized Services for People with Alzheimer’s

Understanding the need for special attention for those with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia, our adult day services staff is specially trained in the disease’s progression. The staff is skilled at communicating and attending to those with memory loss while making activities meaningful and rewarding.

Emergency Respite Care

At Day Haven, we understand the stresses and demands on the family caregiver. This is why we also offer emergency respite care for people who do not regularly attend Day Haven, but need to access care on an intermittent basis. Space is limited and pre-registration and 24-hour notice are required.
